about moi
BLUF [bottom line up front]: To open your eyes, mind, and heart. Simply put, that is the ultimate objective behind The Nativist.
“People usually think that progress consists in the increase of knowledge, in the improvement of life, but that isn’t so. Progress consists only in the greater clarification of answers to the basic questions of life. The truth is always accessible to a man…because a man’s soul is a divine spark, the truth itself. It’s only a matter of removing from this divine spark, everything that obscures it. Progress consists not in the increase of truth, but in freeing it from its wrappings. The truth is obtained like gold, not by letting it grow bigger, but by washing off from it everything that isn’t gold.” -Leo Tolstoy
This beautifully articulates the major premise on which The Nativist brand is based. I’m big on evolving, growing, and progressing, but I believe we have an innate intelligence within us, and an intrinsic value - underneath any personal development, refinement, or evolution.
We all have inherent worth, wisdom, and dimensionality - though they’re often rendered unrecognizable, buried beneath ideals, expectations, wounds, and noise.
So I’m here to help us remind each other.
The more experience I gain and knowledge I glean (which I do think are important - I’m a diehard bibliophile with insatiable curiosity), the more I question. The more I learn and question, the more nuances I accept, but also the more simplicities I see; patterns I recognize. Humans - and life - are so complex, yet so simple.
So I’m here to help us question what we know and how we know it (it can be as enjoyable as you want it to be - up to you).
There are countless ways of living, perceiving, being, and appearing.
So I’m here to help us question what we know and how we know it (it can be as enjoyable as you want it to be - up to you).
There are countless ways of living, perceiving, being, and appearing.
So I’m here to illuminate beauty in all of its many manifestations (including in you).
Connection is what nourishes and fulfills us, and promotes the highest good.
So that’s why I’m here, to facilitate connection: to your self and its many facets, to the world and its many channels, and to each other in our many dimensions.
I am a recovering Type A. My biggest blessing is also my biggest weakness: my insatiable drive. It consumes me. I constantly strive to do better, to feel better, to B E better. Complacency unsettles me. While this hunger has allowed me to achieve many goals, it comes at a cost: personal satisfaction, personal peace, and others' peace (it's not easy to be around a Type A!).
So I've learned to temper it and channel that drive in a healthy way. To tap into my internal wisdom and align with my soul, allowing me to grant myself and others grace while still evolving into my best self.
After years of endless research, tireless experimenting, extensive soul searching - learning, unlearning, and re-learning ways to look and feel as amazing as possible - the one truth remains: it all comes down to trusting yourself. Getting out of your own way and allowing your mind, body, and spirit to do what they already know how to do. Boom. THAT'S IT. That, and lovingly guiding each other along the way.
This is me rising to the call of the Dalai Lama: "The planet does not need more 'successful' people. The planet desperately needs more peacemakers, healers, restorers, storytellers, and lovers of all kinds." I want to help you nurture your own mind/body connection, no matter where you are in your life.
If you personally do not identify with this blog's purpose/content on a deeper level, yet leave feeling a little happier/a little more inspired/a little more invested in yourself and the world...then I will count that as a smashing success. I want to share all I've learned [through research/personal experience/etc] on my eternal quest to be healthy, radiant, and my highest self. Thank you for coming with me.
A lot (too many?) words just to say this is me, offering you snapshots of my life, including places I’m exploring, thoughts I’m considering, perspectives I’m pondering, beauty I'm recognizing, conditions I’m cultivating, art I’m creating, experiences I’m having, and connections I’m making.
As Ram Dass advises, we’re all just walking each other home. So…welcome home.
Thank you for being here.
love,
